In recent days, many international press agencies, including Reuters, British news agency; Xinhua news agency; some international auto newspapers; and some local newspapers (including prestigious ones) reported that Peugeot-Dongfeng JV plans to cooperate with Thaco in late 2015 to produce and sell 8,700 vehicles in ASEAN market in 2015 and the number is expected to reach 70,000 vehicles in 2020.
Talking to VnMedia reporter about this information, Mr. Nguyen Mot, Thaco’s Communications Director affirmed that there is no cooperation between Thaco and Peugeot – Dongfeng JV to produce and assemble Peugeot vehicles in Vietnam.

“Up to now there is no plan or negotiation of the news reported by foreign press agencies. Currently Thaco only produces, assembles and distributes Peugeot vehicles from Europe and has no relation with Dongfeng Group from China,” said Mr. Nguyen Mot.

With its capacity, experience, and prestige, it’s not necessary for Thaco to cooperate with Dongfeng to produce and assemble Peugeot vehicles.

“Nothing true in these articles, only fake rumors”, said Mr. Lionel Faugeres, Director of Peugeot ASEAN in his reply email when we asked him about the issue.

Thaco is now producing and assembling 5 passenger car models of Peugeot in Vietnam, including 208, 408, 508, 3008 and RCZ, followed by its success with Kia Brand (Korea) and Mazda Brand (Japan). In 2014, Thaco took the lead in sales volume and was ranked 2nd position in passenger car market in Vietnam.

With its capacity, experience, and prestige, Thaco can directly cooperate with Peugeot to expand the production and distribution of Peugeot in Vietnam (that is currently implemented) without cooperation with foreign joint venture to produce Peugeot vehicles in Vietnam.
