THACO donates 200 houses to disadvantaged fishermen in Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue
On Mar. 28 and 29, THACO coordinated with the Vietnam Red Cross Society to hand over 200 houses to disadvantaged fishermen in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces in central Vietnam.
The activity was THACO's response to "Safety for Disadvantaged Fishermen" program in 2022 - 2027 launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society. The program works in 291 disadvantaged communes of 23 provinces and cities by the Vietnam coastal lines, seeking to improve working conditions, safety and livelihoods for disadvantaged fishermen.
In Quang Tri Province, from December 2022, using the VND5 billion donation from THACO, the Vietnam Red Cross Society worked with the provincial Red Cross to build 100 houses, including 40 houses in Gio Linh district, 30 in Trieu Phong district and another 30 in Vinh Linh district. Up to now, the houses have been completed and handed over to the local people.
Likewise, in Thua Thien Hue Province, the provincial Red Cross used the other VND5 billion from THACO to construct 100 houses for 100 fishing families in 4 districts, i.e. Quang Dien (35 houses), Phu Vang (11 houses), Phu Loc (38 houses) and Phong Dien (16 houses). Each household was given VND50 million. Among the 100 households, there are 50 poor households, 25 near-poor households and 25 disadvantaged households.
Speaking at the house handover ceremony, Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Red Cross Society sent her thanks to THACO for the generous support for the fishermen in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue where people still have to face difficulties, shortages and often natural disasters. The house donation has both humanitarian and practical meanings.
Excited with their new home, the 58-year-old Tran Ngoc Thanh from one of the poorest families in Gio Hai commune, Gio Linh district shared, “I'm utterly thankful to the Vietnam Red Cross Society at all levels and donors for the support. Now we will have a new solid house that helps us brave the stormy season and feel at ease when we're away for work."
