Steel Plant's Thermal Cutting workshop: Puts efforts in technical innovations and improvements
Technical initiatives and improvement are indispensable in production and business to improve productivity, efficiency and competitive advantages, thus driving the company growth. Embracing such spirit, the Thermal Cutting Workshop of the Steel Plant - THACO INDUSTRIES has led different quality projects which have cut costs and improved production efficiency at the factory.
78 employees at the workshop are in charge of processing steel sheets, non-ferrous metals, steel pipes, solid steel, profiled steel for automotive mechanics, mechanical components, construction, industrial, agriculture mechanics. To improve productivity and product quality, eliminate waste, the unit has launched different initiatives and improvements.
In 2022, there were 40 projects done. Many projects have been applied to production and delivered high efficiency, namely Designing semi-trailer's gooseneck tunnel drill, Using excessive piece of the 6mm Q345 1 work piece on skeleton semi-trailers to reinforce girders of the flatbed semi-trailers, Using excessive work piece to manufacture CT02 crossbar on FD150-4WD vehicles, Using the excessive 10mm work piece to cut "Liftgate Lock Hanger" on FD150 trucks.
"Using the excessive piece of the 6mm Q345 1 work piece on skeleton semi-trailers to reinforce girders of the flatbed semi-trailers” was one of the representative projects of the Oxygen CNC Cutting Team which has boosted productivity by making the most of raw materials, saving more than VND450 million in production costs in 2022. Mr. Huynh Nhu Tuan, the team leader said, “During the machine programming and operation, acknowledging the excessive work piece after machining take up considerable area in the workshop, we have come up with the improvement plan. During the brainstorming, there were different views and opinions, but we found the most optimal solution in the end."
Known for his innovation and quality improvement projects, Mr. Vo Viet Huy, a member of the team shared his views, “We always try to do research to seek the best solutions for working shortcomings. Each of us contributes an idea, shares our knowledge and experience with each other to improve efficiency and contribute to the overall development."
"Designing semi-trailer's gooseneck tunnel drill" by Mr. Luu Duy Tuan, a worker from the Band Saw team cut down the processing time, improve production capacity, and save more than VND100 million in the 2022 costs. The project also won a prize in THACO Chu Lai Industrial Park's Waste Elimination contest. The project owner told us, “I am happy that my projects have contributed to reducing manual works for others, elevating product quality and saving costs for the company. That also motivates me to do further research to come up with new initiatives.”
As the foreman of the thermal cutting workshop, Mr. Phan Thanh Tam sends his encouragement to the team on making innovations in their work. “Improvements are cumulative, long-term, small improvements add up to big results. To make quality products, fast delivery, low cost, etc., we need continuous improvement. I often explain and remind the team members of the importance of identifying and eliminating waste in production, and create favorable conditions for them to make creative and effective innovations."
The improvement projects at the workshop have not only contributed to the company in terms of costs and manual labor, increasing productivity and product quality, but also helped the employees personally by promoting their expertise and collective creativity. Such spirit has widely spread to other units and departments, promoting the initiative and creativity in each employee to together push the company ahead.
