In 2003, THACO constructed Chu Lai - Truong Hai Complex in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, Quang Nam province. At that time, THACO faced the biggest challenge which is logistics. CKD components from Korea have to be shipped to Ho Chi Minh City, then to Chu Lai, which doubles the costs and lengthens the time. Along with the operation of bus plant and KIA passenger car plant, THACO also constructed Chu Lai - Truong Hai port (Tam Hiep berth - Ky Ha port) with the advantages being wind tightness, near to Highway 1A and in conjunction with Da Nang - Quang Ngai highway. To 2012, phase 1 was completed with the wharf length being 300 meters which could receive the 20,000 ton ships on an area of 40 hectares, including: a 44,000-square-meter container yard, bonded warehouses, warehouses, and liquid warehouses on 70,000 square meters with the investment capital of 400 billion VND. At the same time, THACO also invested and put into operation two 15,000 ton vessels with the loading capacity of 1,000 TEU on Fangcheng (China) - Chu Lai and Ho Chi Minh - Chu Lai routes, establishing the full logistic service chain including: sea transport, sea port, road transport, and warehouses. The port cargoes grow over the years with 450,000 tons in 2014, 950,000 tons in 2015, and 1,350,000 tons in 2016 expectedly.

The development of logistic services served and contributed to the growth of production. Today, Chu Lai - Truong Hai Complex has the area of nearly 400 hectares with 4 auto assembly plants and 21 components and spare parts plants, etc., helping THACO lead the Vietnam auto market in 2014. In 2015, THACO continues to lead the market with the total sales of 80,421 vehicles, accounting for 38.6% of market shares of Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association. The consolidated revenue reached 45,800 billion VND or 2 billion USD. The total contribution to the national budget was 13,856 billion VND, in which contribution to Quang Nam was 10,096 billion VND with over 15,500 employees including 8,000 people at Chu Lai. In 2016, THACO sets the target of 112,336 vehicles. The consolidated revenue is 71,735 billion VND, equivalent to 3 billion VND, total national contribution of 20,018 billion VND, including 15,178 billion VND to Quang Nam province.
Towards ASEAN regional integration in 2018 and implementation of the "Strategy for development of the automotive industry Vietnam to 2025, vision of 2035" approved by the Prime Minister on 16 July 2014, THACO and Quang Nam province started to invest in expanding 210 hectares in Chu Lai - Truong Hai Auto Machinery Industrial Park to implement the projects: Up-to-9-seat car manufacture and assembly plant (the capacity of 100,000 vehicles / year); up-to-25-ton truck plant (the capacity of 100,000 vehicles / year); 10-seat-or-more passenger car plant (the capacity of 20,000 units / year); along with the components and spare parts plants to meet the localization rate of over 40% to meet the export conditions to ASEAN countries.

Noticeable, THACO opened the maritime container route directly from South Korea to Chu Lai to diminish the transport costs, product prices, improve competitiveness and attract investments in Chu Lai - Quang Nam.

On the other hand, THACO kicked off the expanding of Chu Lai - Truong Hai port with 170 meters of the wharf upstream, reaching the total length of nearly 500m with the investment capital of over 200 billion VND, bringing the total investment in the Port to beyond 800 billion VND and the project will be completed by February 2017. THACO plans to dredge channels to receive the 30,000 ton ships (in 2018).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tran Ba Duong - THACO Chairman said: "The opening of this maritime route not only reduces the transportation costs that were previously incurred from the ports of Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang to Chu Lai, but also marks the turning point that Chu Lai - Truong Hai port becomes the export port of Quang Nam directly firstly to South Korea. At the same time, this event has great significance and great value to THACO. After more than 14 years of investment and development in Chu Lai, today, the company achieves yields great and stable enough to establish this transport route, gradually solving the shortcomings of logistics and contributing to the production investment promotion at Chu Lai in particular and Quang Nam in general.
