THACO Chairman Tran Ba Duong said, recognizing the urgency and importance of the project and in response to the request of Quang Nam leaders, THACO has made a proposal and received the approval from the Government, Ministry of Transport, Quang Nam Province on turning the overpass into a 2-level roundabout with a total investment capital of VND600 billion, 100% from THACO's capital.

According to his speech, the 2-level junction includes: the 80-meter-diameter roundabout as the intersection with the railway for all directions to Chu Lai - Truong Hai Auto Mechanical Engineering Industrial Park and Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway, dedicated to vehicles traveling from the expressway and the industrial park, crossing the railway to enter National Highway 1A, Chu Lai Port and vice versa; and the 50-meter-diameter roundabout on the ground (at National Highway 1A) for the directions on National Highway 1A and to Chu Lai Port to adjust traffic for the junction between National Highway 1A and the port access road. At the same time, a 3.5-meter-wide pedestrian bridge will be built crossing the railway, connecting Chu Lai - Truong Hai Auto Industrial Park to National Highway 1A. The construction work is for long-term use, using reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete.

"This 2-level roundabout is to improve, enhance and develop traffic on National Highway 1A in general, and Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in particular. And most importantly, the construction will be able to meet the local traffic demand and improve traffic safety for the local people, including THACO staff. We undertake to allocate sufficient capital to ensure the construction progress and put it into used before August 17, 2018 - the 15th anniversary of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone’s establishment." - stressed Mr. Duong.

Also in the event, Mr. Nguyen Van The - Minister of Transport expressed his deep gratitude to THACO as the first private enterprise to spend VND600 billion to construct the 2-level roundabout at National Highway 1A.

He stated, In Decision No. 1978 / QD-TTg dated October 14, 2016, the Vietnamese Prime Minister allocated VND200 billion to invest in the overpasses at the intersection between National Highway 1A, North-South Railway and the main road connecting Chu Lai Port with Danang - Quang Ngai Expressway. However, the capital of VND200 billion can only serve a 16.5-meter-wide overpass crossing National Highway 1A and the North-South Railway and two 6.5-meter-wide branch overpasses over the North-South Railway, including lane turns. Such construction cannot meet the traffic demand in line with the development of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in the future, especially the connection to Da Nang - Quang Ngai Highway. Acknowledging this, THACO has closed the deal by adding further fund for the construction.

"This is a meaningful and humanitarian deed for the government as well as the local people. I hope this roundabout will be a landscape spotlight as well as infrastructure development for the area. Besides, the local people will enjoy safer transport and less traffic congestion...", he noted.
