THACO develops sustainable agri
From the beginning of this project, the phrase "THACO develops agri" has gradually become familiar. Currently, the system of facilities, brand identity, human resources for developing high-tech agri is coming into realization.
THACO's strategy
"THACO develops agri“ is a long story. Back in 2016, in a conference, THACO's Chairman Tran Ba Duong shared the company’s relationship with agri. Accordingly, with the desire to bring the country's agri to a new height, THACO has received support when it decided to invest thousands of billion VND in high-tech agricultural projects.
In 2017, THACO implemented its agricultural development, in which the first step was the cooperation with Loc Troi rice production company. On April 8, 2017 at Thai Binh Rural Investment and Development Conference, THACO and Loc Troi signed an agricultural investment memorandum with Thai Binh Provincial People's Committee. At the same time, the Project of Industrialization of Agri and operation of an enclosed chain of production, harvesting, processing, transportation and distribution was launched. Accompanying the project were large-scale items with a total investment of about VND7,800 billion, building
industrial parks specializing in agri (on an area of about 310 hectares), building ports and specialized transportation systems by waterway, construction of a farm system (large sample fields) in phase 1, about 340 ha.
Not stopping there, also in 2017, THACO continued to shake hands with LS Mtron, a strong Korean corporation in manufacturing machinery for agri. The reached agreement facilitated THACO to receive technology transfer from the Korean company in order to build a factory producing farming machines and equipment of all kinds ... used in agri with a localization rate of 50% and distributed in Vietnam by THACO.
After 2018, THACO has determined its development strategy to become "Vietnam's multi-industry group at the ASEAN level". In addition to automobiles and mechanics, agri is formally a part of THACO's new development strategy. The Group emphasizes the nature of "mechanizing all stages of the agricultural production value chain: from farming to harvesting, transportation, storage, processing and distribution", a.k.a THACO is determined to develop hi-tech agri.
On February 21, 2018, the largest agricultural factory in the country was inaugurated in Thaco Chu Lai Industrial Park (Quang Nam Province). The project is located on an area of 12,500m2 with a total investment of VND500 billion. In the first phase, the plant has a capacity of 2,000 tractors / year, 3,000 sets of farming equipment and 1,000 combine harvesters. Its key export markets in the future are Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia and markets in the trading system of LS Mtron (Korea).
Strategic cooperation with Hoang Anh Gia Lai
In August 2018, THACO continued the process of expanding its agricultural production sector by combining with Hoang Anh Gia Lai. At that time, most public opinion stated that this predestined relationship was only to help Hoang Anh Gia Lai overcome its financial difficulties. In fact, according to economic experts, it is this combination that has opened two great opportunities for THACO: facilitating the expansion of agri production and increasing its presence in foreign markets. On August 8, 2018, the signing ceremony of strategic cooperation between the two parties took place. After that, THACO advanced over VND10,500 billion to help Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agrico of HAGL restructure the debt and convert part of the area of rubber and oil palm trees into fruit trees, farm planning and application of synchronized mechanization solutions.
For its part, THACO continued to improve its facilities system for agri. On March 18, 2019, THACO established THADI Agricultural Production, Processing and Distribution Corporation, specializing in investment, production and business in agri - forestry including: agricultural development research, model farms and experimental farms, production of organic and biological agricultural materials, fruit processing plants, exporting and distributing high-quality fruits to foreign markets. On March 24, 2019, THACO started the construction of the 451-hectare Agri and Forestry Industrial Park, with a total investment of VND8,118 billion for infrastructure. The park includes a fruit processing factory with a designed capacity of 500,000 tons / year, total investment of over VND2,400 billion, which will be put into operation in phase 1 from June 2020 with a capacity of 200,000 tons / year.
In addition to the processing plant, the Agri and Forestry Industrial Park also has an R&D center for seeds, agricultural supplies, biotechnology, organic agri and cultivation, tending, harvesting, preserving and processing techniques. The experimental farms with industrial production, mechanization and 4.0 digital management for fruit trees such as grapefruit, jackfruit, mango and high-value forest trees suitable for the condition in the Central region. Besides, there are experimental area for breeding, production of organic agricultural materials, specialized cold storage area for fruits, fruit processing plants of all kinds to cover products. This system of facilities is consulted, designed and supported by big brands in agricultural processing equipment such as Tap. Riekermann Group, GEA Group of Germany, Bertuzzi Company of Italy and Application Center for Food Industry in Asia - Pacific.
Also on March 24, 2019, THADI's first batch of fruit was exported to the international market with the witness of the Prime Minister and THACO's Board of Directors: 30 containers of bananas were exported from Chu Lai port to Qingdao (China) for more than half a million dollars. These were the first results that THACO has achieved in agri, contributing to the development of Vietnam's agri in the direction of modernization and high technology.
THACO continues to perform the following tasks:
Organizing agricultural production on a large scale, according to specialized crop groups, combining crops and livestock to form an organic ecosystem, ensuring clean and quality products, high productivity, and outputs of one stage are inputs of the other in the value chain to ensure the highest efficiency.
Investing in building a center for experiment of fruit trees, research and develop plant varieties, technologies and cultivation techniques to transfer to farmers and product consumption in order to develop fruit tree growing areas in Central Vietnam and Central Highlands towards the Southeast provinces.
Investing in producing and processing from fresh fruits to products of fruit pulp and concentrated water, and inviting investors to process fruit cakes, ice cream, juices, etc. to form the production model integrated with the cheapest price and the most diverse types of products, ensuring competitiveness in the context of integration.
Developing agricultural human resources for all stages of the value chain such as engineering and cultivation, care, mechanization, production and processing ... in the form of cooperation with global experienced partners to transfer technology and send experts to work, at the same time cooperate with universities and colleges to increase training and recruiting engineers and technical staff; training agricultural workers with suitable mindset, knowledge to gradually meet the production needs of THACO and the agricultural sector of Vietnam.
