Chu Lai Port’s 50,000-DWT berth is recognized as Quang Nam’s development achievement
On March 21, a plaque ceremony took place at Chu Lai Port to commemorate the recognition of its 50,000-DWT berth. This is one of the eight representative initiatives celebrating the 50th anniversary of Quang Nam Province’s Liberation Day (March 24, 1975) and the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the provincial Communist Party (March 28, 1930).

The event was attended by Mr. Le Van Dung, Quang Nam Party Deputy Secretary, Chairman of Quang Nam People’s Committee, and Quang Nam National Assembly Head, along with local leaders from other departments, Nui Thanh District, and THILOGI representatives.

The 50,000-DWT berth extends 365 meters downstream, connected to Berth No.1, raising Chu Lai Port's total length to 836 meters. With an 11.6-meter depth, the berth can accommodate ships weighing up to 50,000 tons. The project, worth 1.59 trillion VND, began operations in September 2024. Following the master plan of Quang Nam Government and People’s Committee, the berth aims to help scale the port to meet cargo handling demands, solidify its role as a trading hub, and establish itself as a logistics center for Central Vietnam, the Central Highlands, southern Laos, and northern Cambodia.

During the ceremony, Mr. Phan Van Ky, Chu Lai Port’s Director, affirmed THILOGI’s commitment to continued investment in infrastructure development and service quality enhancement at the port. These efforts aim to meet the growing transportation and import-export needs of businesses in the region.

Mr. Thieu Viet Dung, Deputy Head of the Quang Nam Economic Zones and Industrial Parks Board, emphasized the berth’s alignment with the provincial maritime development goals and emerging trends in the shipping industry. “This project lays a critical foundation to gradually transform Chu Lai Port into a dedicated container port, a domestic and international cargo transshipment hub, optimizing logistics operations and attracting investment into Quang Nam Province,” he stated.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, commended the dedication and determination of THILOGI and Chu Lai Port in executing the project. He emphasized that such efforts have fulfilled commitments made to the Government and local authorities to upgrade the port's scale and service quality. The project is expected to promote economic and social development in Quang Nam Province and the Central Vietnam-Central Highlands region as a whole.
