Ho Chi Minh City leaders visit Thu Thiem 2 bridge project

THACO Chairman Tran Ba Duong is reporting the construction progress to the city leaders
Speaking of the construction progress, THACO Chairman Tran Ba Duong said that after relentless efforts (working 3 shifts per day, working on holidays and during Covid-19 outbreaks), since April 2017 which was the commencement of the project, the bridge has completed more than 85% of its work, installed 17 out of 17 steel beams across the Saigon River, constructed 33 out of 34 tower pillars and stretched 54 out of 56 cables, successfully connected the main deck and ensured the committed schedule.
Thu Thiem 2 Bridge has 6 lanes, is 1,465 meters long, in which the main deck is 839 meters long. The bridge connects Thu Thiem New Urban Area with District 1, playing a vital role in the socio-economic development of the city and contributing to reducing traffic congestion in the downtown area.

Due to the impacts of the pandemic, the construction work has faced many difficulties, including social distancing, disruptions in the supply chains and logistics, and cost increases. However, the investor has succeeded to overcome difficulties, adjusted the operations to ensure both construction and Covid-19 prevention, i.e. strictly following preventive measures, and 3 on-the-site model - construction on the site, eat on the site, rest on the site, being able to protect the workers' safety.

In the coming time, the bridge will continue its work, speeding up to complete the tower top, stretching all cables by October 10, completing the main bridge, lighting, load test and is scheduled to operate by April 30, 2022.
Once completed, the bridge will connect traffic between the existing city center and Thu Thiem new urban area, creating a driving force for rapid development for Thu Thiem New Urban, contributing to cutting traffic congestion in the city.
