High-quality improvement ideas from VAM
To strengthen the technical improvement activities to improve productivity, efficiency, and competitive advantage, in January 2023, Vina Automotive AirCon Manufacturing Plant (VAM) has established a technical improvement team including members from the engineering, quality control, production, and accounting departments.
Since the beginning of the year, the team has carried out 54 projects on technical improvement and waste elimination which have contributed to better production processes, product quality and save VND1.6 billion according to the 2023-2024 plans.
One of its most outstanding projects is Improving the spraying and gluing for passenger car's sunroof frame. In particular, the gluing improvements saved over VND555 million, meanwhile the sunroof frame pressing machine increased accuracy and product quality, and saved VND600 million in 2023 and 2024.
At the Passenger Car Electronic Component and Air-Conditioning line, the capacity testing equipment for car Audio, Video & Navigation (AVN) systems only tested the navigation and entertainment functions, e.g. speakers, video, radio, etc., yet it could not test vehicle stability during operation and the quality of circuit board components, LCD screens, in other words, not meeting the QC requirements. Accordingly, the team manufactured a circuit board capacity testing system to fix the quality control inadequacies, ensuring the inspection process, and save VND250 million in equipment investment costs from overseas.
In June, the team is studying, designing and running the trial of the new projects, such as designing and installing the furnace temperature control system at the passenger car sunroof pressing line, designing internal transport system for the PU FOAM block in the wet-on-wet sunroof line, or designing the PE-FOAM material pressing machines.
In the coming time, the VAM Plant will conduct more evaluations of its production lines to detect inadequacies and provide timely improvement solutions. In the third and fourth quarters of 2023, the factory expects to have 48 new projects to increase technology contents, productivity and product quality, saving production time and costs (including labor, materials, defective products, etc.)
