THACO Chairman meets with Cambodia's Prime Minister
THACO Chairman Tran Ba Duong joined prominent figures on December 12, 2023, at the 2023 Vietnam - Cambodia Trade and Investment Promotion Forum held in Hanoi. The event was graced by the presence of both Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Cambodia's Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
In the meeting, the THACO Chairman sent congratulations to Mr. Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet for being appointed as Prime Minister of Cambodia by the National Assembly.
During the meeting, THACO Chairman discussed the company's investments in large-scale agricultural production in Cambodia. He highlighted the establishment of Truong Hai Agricultural Joint Stock Company (THACO AGRI) in 2019 as a key step in fulfilling THACO's strategic vision for large-scale agricultural production.
In 2020, after taking over 6 companies from HAGL Agrico, during the Covid-19 outbreaks seriously affecting production and business activities in Cambodia, THACO AGRI has made efforts to maintain production and ensure the stability of jobs and income for more than 17,000 workers in Cambodia. THACO AGRI's agricultural complexes are planned and invested with a comprehensive network of technical systems and facilities to support efficient production and business operations, fulfilling its commitment to biosafety and wellbeing for employees
From 2022 to 2023, THACO AGRI piloted a novel agricultural model that integrates banana and fruit tree cultivation with cattle breeding, encompassing both calves and semi-intensive cattle rearing. To support this model, THACO AGRI invested in infrastructure, including roads, irrigation systems, electricity grids, worker housing, convenience stores, and a complete agricultural processing chain. This chain consisted of banana packaging factories, cold storage facilities for fruits, logistics and internal transportation systems, cattle breeding farms, and an animal feed production center. This comprehensive infrastructure ensures efficient production and export while creating stable jobs for over 13,500 workers. Importantly, all employees are provided with labor contracts and enjoy benefits aligned with Cambodian labor laws.
Inspired by the success of their pilot agricultural model, THACO AGRI submitted a proposal to the Cambodian Prime Minister for the establishment of two large-scale agricultural companies which are for the Snuol district in Kratie province and the Lumphat district in Ratanakiri province, with an anticipated launch date in the first quarter of 2024. Accordingly, THACO AGRI is committed to providing skills training programs for Cambodian youth, health care programs for workers and local people around the project; and staying aligned with Cambodia's national development goals, supporting border-based economic zones, mechanics and supporting industries, commerce and services.
THACO AGRI also demonstrates a strong commitment to social responsibility through various initiatives. Notably, the company sponsored 15 mobile medical vehicles to the Cambodia's Red Cross, constructed over 30 kilometers of roads connecting villages surrounding its agricultural complexes in Snuol and Lumphat, provided employment opportunities and accommodation for over 1,600 Cambodian workers in Tonle Sap, organized 22 primary classes for over 800 children aged 5 to 11, taking care of the educational well-being of its employees' children.
Cambodia's Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet welcomed and appreciated THACO AGRI's investment in the agricultural sector in Cambodia and promised to support the company in implementing its projects.
