On November 2, the University of Technology under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) hosted the announcement ceremony for the VNU-HCM Student Football Tournament - THACO CUP 2024, with THACO as the main sponsor. The event was graced by THACO President Pham Van Tai.

Marking its debut, the 11-a-side football tournament features 250 players from 8 teams representing various member universities of the VNU-HCM, including the University of Technology, University of Economics and Law, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the International University. Teams are drawn into two groups for a round-robin competition, adhering to the FIFA’s regulations.

In his speech, THACO President Pham Van Tai emphasized the tournament's role, “The tournament is a valuable playground that gives students opportunities to exchange, connect, and showcase the vigor, dynamism, creativity, and boldness of their generation. It is also necessary for students to actively train their physical and mental abilities, continue to work hard towards future goals, and contribute to the development of schools and communities.”

The VNU-HCM Student Football Tournament - THACO CUP 2024 will run from November 17 to December 1 at Di An Stadium in Binh Duong Province. The winning team will receive VND50 million, a championship trophy, and gold medals. The second and third place teams will be awarded VND30 million and VND10 million, respectively, along with silver and bronze medals. Additional prizes include awards for fair play award, fan award, and best player award, with total prizes nearing VND100 million.

Acting as the tournament’s sponsor, THACO aims to boost the football movement among students, particularly those at VNU-HCM’s universities, fostering solidarity, interaction, and learning among students to help them improve, build confidence, and prepare for their future endeavors.
